FAQ
- What is a Prior Authorization?
- This means your insurance company is determining whether or not to give you the medication your doctor has chosen. Our office usually has to call the insurance company and provide more information to them regarding your diagnosis and other medications you have tried.
- How long does this process take?
- This can take up to 72 hours to get the determination from your insurance company.
- What if my medication is denied?
- Sometimes the doctor can substitute a generic medication which will be filled more easily. In the case of Retin A, many times it is considered cosmetic and you will have to pay out of pocket for this medication. For some of the more expensive medications for psoriasis, for example, you have an option to appeal a denial. This process involves a lot of paperwork and phone calls and can take several weeks.
- Can you call in a refill of my medication?
- Our office policy is to allow refills if you have been seen within a year. If your medication requires monitoring, we may ask you to make a follow-up appointment so we can check for side effects or problems. Please give us 24 hours to get your prescription to the pharmacy.
- What is a no-show fee?
- In August of 2008 we started a policy to charge patients $20.00 for not keeping their appointments. This was designed to act as a deterrent. We have a long waiting list and if you cannot keep your appointment we would rather allow someone who needs the appointment to be seen. We ask for 24 hour notice so that we can fill the slot. Of course if there is a bad storm we will waive any fees.
